Summer Style | Kids Rooms

I love designing children's rooms as there really are no rules. You can be a little more adventurous than you would be in other rooms in your home.

I tend to stick to a colour palette of about three or so colours and also try and select one or two 'hero' pieces that I can work the rest of the room around.

I designed a moodboard for Ellery last week after she came into the MintSix shop and chose the Kip & Co pretzels quilt set for Christmas.

She has one chalkboard wall, three white walls, a white floor & white Luxaflex blinds so a relatively blank canvas to work with which always helps.

I started by including her existing furniture & favourite items and then used some things that will go onto the wish list.

  1. Incy Interiors Bed in Yellow $990 I've just scored a headboard from the Op Shop that I'll spray yellow (kinder on the wallet)but I do love these beds!

Summer Style | Kitchen

My kitchen which is yet to be renovated, has a good side and a not so good side. In order to keep myself from ripping things out and later regretting it (e.g kitchen cupboards with dodgy broken glass doors) I have to add little bits and pieces that make me happy to hang out in there.

This Pony Rider, Swiss Alps Wall Dot has been moved already a couple of times which is one of the reasons I'm such a fan of them. If you're a serial 'rearranger' like I am then it's easy to peel off and pop it into another room.

Purchase one of these dots here

Instagram shot in the kitchen after I'd raided the garden recently.

One of my latest purchases that I'm loving is a medium sized gold/brown Uashmama bag, perfect for a plant or for lemons (great place to stash them now it's Gin & Tonic season)
To be honest, it's G&T season for me all year, but I am enjoying them all the more now that the sun's shining!

In the shop, we have a beautiful spikey aloe inside it. The two great reads the bag is sitting on are, A Place called Home, by Jason Grant & Things I Love, by Megan Morton.

A Billy Heckenberg cushion is off to the side of the pic, click here for the cushion & here for the Uashmama bag.

Another must have for the kitchen sink is a good looking handwash. This Ashley & Co handwash called Parakeets and Pearls is limited edition & smells amazing! If your benchtop need a bit of love, as mine does, purchase one of these beauties here for only $30.00.

This small grey Uashmama bag is a great size for keeping herbs on the kitchen bench. Place three in a row or pop one in with a few other bits & pieces as I have in the photo above.

Old mason jars fit into these bags perfectly or if you are putting herb containers straight into it, wrap the bottom of it with plastic shower caps from the $2.00 shop. Click here to grab one of these guys, for $28.00 you can't go wrong.

Also until next Tuesday the 29th of Oct we have a 20% off storewide sale.

1.Nynne Rosenvinge print | Circle Dusky $35.00
2.Pony Rider Wall Dot | You & Me Sunday Driving $89.00
3.Black Aztec Cushion $68.00
4.Turquoise, Pink & Blue Arrow Cushion $68.00
5.Kip & Co | Peach Matchstick Quilt $249
6.Half Moon Vase $112.00

Remember, until Tuesday take 20% off the above prices! Now is as good a time as any to get your Christmas shopping started or a little something for yourself. T :)

Summer Style | Basics

In an attempt to make up for some seriously sporadic blogging, I thought I'd really push the boat out & do three this week.

Black & White

The warmer weather that's been creeping up on us has inspired me to compile a couple of moodboards and a wish list of some new gears for both myself & my girls.

Having busted out my sandals for the first time last week, I'm hoping they're going to get some more regular outings from here on in. Fingers crossed, as I'm getting pretty bored of my winter wardrobe!

For me, basics are key for day to day. Black, white, denim, stripes, leopard print & bit of metallic. Here are a few bits and pieces that are going onto the summer wardrobe wish list.

Leopard Print

I'm still partial to a bit of leopard print. I find it cranks up my basics to make things just a tad more interesting.

1.Esther Pony Hair Sandal

2.Bassike Stripe Heritage Crew T-Shirt
3.Glassons Black Pocket Dress
4.Lux Underwire Bra
5.Witchery White Mesh T-shirt

1.Sterling & Hyde Bent Brushed Studs. In-store at MintSix
2.Sportsluxe Harlequin Sweater
3.Asos Metallic Kimono
4.Essie Rose Gold Nail Polish (Another goodie is L'Oreal, "Charmed I'm Sure")

My home is also in need of a shake up so I'm doing a much needed spring clean, some rearranging and also introducing a few new things into the living area, bedrooms and kitchen, but more about that on Wednesday.

On Friday, I'll post about a few things I am hoping to get the girls over the coming months, both to wear and for their rooms.

I'll also do a little post on our new MintSix shop at some stage. Things have been going great guns and we're really enjoying meeting lots of you! If you are in the region and still haven't popped in, we'd love you to. 290 Highgate, Roslyn, Dunedin.
